The Disaster Recovery Solution
On this project Digiwizz where set the task to design a disaster recovery solution which would enable their organization to recover from a complete office meltdown to a new location. We also needed to be able to do this within a 3 hour SLA.
The client also had a small budget which didn’t allow the use of our more sophisticated products using live replication services across WAN links.
The solution would protect two Windows 2003 Servers running Exchange 2003 for the United Kingdom, New York City & Hong Kong offices.
After careful analysis of there system we decided to use the Symantec Live State Recovery product on both servers.
The Digiwizz solution
- Image the servers twice daily onto removable USB 2.0 disks which where then taken offsite daily.
- An Identical server was purchased for the redundant office location
- Reconfigured the servers to allow both servers to be recovered to one server.
Recovery
The recovery of the servers was tested and a fully working recovered server came online within two hours of failure. This was based on over 200GB of data.
Conclusion
This project was a complete success and has since been implemented for a number of our clients. This solution offers more than disaster recovery; it offers a backup solution which can be used in a number of different ways.
The client was able to start using this system straight away with the minimal amount of training.
